Wallyhood just mourned the demise of the much beloved old Julia’s restaurant across the street from the Wallingford Center at the end of last year. The restaurant closing was not without controversy, as my fellow editor Megan’s article described at the time. However…we received a note from reader Marilyn who alerted us to the fact that *something* may be afoot at the site. A couple of weeks ago, I had walked past it on my way to our quarterly meetup with writers at the Blue Star and saw some folks inside, but I figured it was just the usual squatters or people stripping out copper wiring out for easy profit. After hearing from Marilyn, I went by today, and sure enough: there is a sign in the windows (pictured) that says: “Julia’s of Wallingford, Coming Soon” with the familiar “updating” graphic. There was no one inside the now-emptied establishment and little sign of current or future activity. But one can’t help but be hopeful that a neighborhood institution might be on its way back, in one form or another. Of course…we’ve been disappointed before (re: Guild 45th Theatre).
Stay tuned…we will keep you informed about developments!
What do you mean by “usual squatters”? I’ve lived in the neighborhood for twenty years and squatters are not “usual” to me.
