It is nearly Thanksgiving, the holiday that has sadly become something of a footnote as Black Friday Eve. But many people still maintain the old traditions of gathering with family and friends to enjoy an abundance of food and polarizing discourse. It used to be, that if you realized that you were one brussels sprout short of a side dish; or desperately needed another couple bottles of wine to make it through dinner with Uncle Bob; or required bandages and tourniquets to stem the bleeding from that knife-related prep mishap in the kitchen—you were out of luck, as most stores were closed on Thanksgiving. It was the same thing if you were all alone for one reason or another, or in Uncle Bob’s case, you were asked to leave for the sake of family unity—most eateries were closed as well. While this is still mostly true, some stores, restaurants, and bars are open on Thanksgiving. You can improve the odds of a successful outcome if you plan your mishaps and oversights for earlier in the day, as places like Bartell, Walgreens, and QFC will be open during the day but close in the evenings. Uncle Bob apparently will have longer to sit at a bar and mull his social transgressions.
I cast a large and loose net out there to put together this list, so apologies for any oversights, omissions, and errors. Please note any amendments in the comments, or alert the editors, and we can add to the list. Have a nice Thanksgiving, everyone.
