This post comes to us from John Nicon, neighbor at University House.
Two noteworthy Wallingford institutions, 90 years apart in age, but right across the street from each other have formed a new relationship. Lincoln High School and University House, ERA Living’s premier retirement home, have formed “LINCOLN LINKS” to share their resources and activities.
Developed in 1997 by the University of Washington Retirement Association and ERA Living, University House has become home for many retired UW professors and staff. They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with other residents, and now with their neighbor. Lincoln students possess incredible abilities and curiosity that impress their older neighbors.
Initiated during the COVID crisis in 2020, the first activity was a Lincoln choral group singing Christmas Carols outside the University House building. As the crisis eased, a Lincoln choral group performed in the University House auditorium. University House residents have volunteered at tutors at Lincoln. Residents attended several musical performances and the spring exhibitions at Lincoln in the 2022-2023 school year and more are expected to attend in the future.
A solo cello performance by a Lincoln student was a highlight in 2023. Several Lincoln students work as dining room servers. A couple of Lincoln student servers have received scholarships from University House.
Thanks to Corey Eicher, Lincoln principal, Lincoln’s faculty and the University House life enrichment staff, LINCOLN LINKS has a very promising future.
