A new bakery will soon be coming to town in the old Sweet Shop Space on 45th Street next to Mr. Gyros between Thackery Pl NE and Latona Ave NE. La Liath Bakery has been up and running for seven years, but it will soon be opening its first brick-and-mortar shop in the Wallingford neighborhood. Lá Liath is a British Isles bakery, focused on items popular in England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales and they are planning on having an array of sweet and savory bakery items for sale.
The owner and head baker, Marenka Dobes, is a Wallingford resident who has lived in the area for about ten years. Construction of the bakery is currently underway, and if everything goes to plan a soft opening is planned for December.
Personally, I’m a little too excited to have Lá Liath Bakery nearby. I loved all the baked goods I feasted on during my last trip to the UK and I’m delighted to have the same treats much closer to home.
