When we at Wallyhood gathered with some of our writers, readers, and unsuspecting passers-by who were trying to mind their own business out on the patio at Murphy’s, one of the comments we received was that the person would like to see more coverage of local/neighborhood politics. We are aware that many of you probably come to Wallyhood to avoid politics. But we would be a little remiss if we didn’t mention that there is an important election coming up in a few weeks.
We are not in the business of endorsements here, but we can provide a sampling of the coverage and endorsements from less distinguished publications and platforms like the Seattle Times and The Stranger. Therefore, here, for those of you who wish to scratch that political itch, are some of the comparisons and profiles from around the region for our District 4 and District 6 (See map below):
DISTRICT 4
- Davis, Rivera compete to represent Seattle’s District 4 on City Council | The Seattle Times
- The Stranger’s Endorsements for the August 1, 2023, Primary Election – The Stranger
- Seattle City Council District 4: Ron Davis vs. Maritza Rivera | Crosscut
- PubliCola Questions: City Council Candidate Maritza Rivera, District 4 – PubliCola

Regardless of your leanings, passion, or degree of disgust, Wallyhood heartily encourages you to VOTE. Every election is important, but this one feels especially key since the makeup of the City Council will be changing significantly. If you care about the direction of the city and its wacky politics, please take the time to exercise your civic right/obligation. Otherwise, prepare to sit quietly for the next four years while the rest of us bicker amongst ourselves.
Minor correction. The image shown is of the old council district map. The Eastlake neighborhood is now in District 3, and District 6 now includes Magnolia. Here’s the latest district map.
The map above was taken from here: https://www.seattle.gov/cityclerk/agendas-and-legislative-resources/find-your-council-district.
I think I found the reason. On this page, it says “Technically, District boundary changes don’t go into effect until January 2024, but in the November 2023 elections you will be selecting Councilmembers that reflect the new boundaries.” https://seattle.gov/neighborhoods/about-seattle/neighborhoods-and-council-districts
