Wallyhood heard from Sarah and Johhny Courtney, long-time Fremont residents who were exuberant to share the news of taking up their culinary residence right here in Wallingford!
Atoma, the highly anticipated contemporary, informal fine-dining restaurant led by former Canlis Executive Sous Chef Johnny Courtney, is proud to announce the upcoming grand opening of its permanent location in Seattle’s vibrant Wallingford neighborhood this fall.
Located at 1411 N 45th Street, Atoma’s new space inherits the legacy of the beloved former Tilth location—a pioneering Seattle establishment that achieved acclaim for its organic Pacific Northwest cuisine and dedication to supporting local farmers. As Atoma prepares to open its doors, the team, helmed by Chef Johnny Courtney and Operations Director Sarah Courtney, has undertaken meticulous planning and renovations to reflect Atoma’s innovative vision while paying homage to the rich history that resonates within its walls.
“We are humbled to be entrusted with the legacy of Tilth, and we hold the memories of Chef Maria Hines’ remarkable contributions in high regard,” said Sarah Courtney. “As we prepare to unveil Atoma’s permanent location, we carry forward the ethos of supporting local farmers, celebrating the Pacific Northwest’s abundance, and expressing creativity through our craft.”
Atoma promises an exceptional dining experience that transcends mere food consumption, where guests are invited to savor the invisible aspects of a meal—the dedication of local farmers, the craftsmanship of winemakers, and the passion of the culinary team that brings it all to life. The name “Atoma” itself, meaning “invisible,” serves as a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to highlighting the often-overlooked nuances that make dining truly special.
“Our aim is to create an environment that fosters creativity, invokes nostalgia, and fosters a sense of togetherness,” said Chef Johnny Courtney. “Atoma is more than a restaurant; it is a culinary journey that intertwines global influences with the rich offerings of the Pacific Northwest.”

I have been watching the remodel these last few months as I walk to my volunteer job at Family Works or shopping at the thrift store. I have been so impressed with the craftmanship and quality of the project. Looking forward to trying out this new restaurant in our neighborhood.
