Two New Signs at Meridian Playground
Have you seen the two newly installed signs at Meridian Playground? They are two mosaics created by a couple of local Girl Scouts, (us!), Eleanor and Josephine, earning our Silver Award. The Silver Award is the second highest award a Girl Scout can earn. We worked with Seattle Mosaic Arts to design and create the signs.
One of our signs shows the entrance to the Tilth Alliance Community Learning Garden. The other shows the exit to Meridian Playground. We also chose to feature a few ladybugs on our signs to symbolize the pesticide-free practices that Meridian Playground (taken care of by Friends of Meridian Park (FOMP) with Seattle Parks) and Tilth value. We installed the signs hoping to help bring more visibility to Tilth and their Learning Garden within the community. We wanted to promote Tilth Alliance and their anti-racist, ecological, and economical gardening practices. Many people who visit Meridian Playground don’t even know that Tilth runs a Learning Garden over by the P-patch. Tilth uses their garden to run classes on organic gardening, fruit tree pruning, composting, and more.
Check them out near the bandstand!
We really enjoyed working with these two local groups to create something that would not only be useful and add to the mosaics already in the park but also be able to bring more attention to Tilth’s wonderful Learning Garden. The next time you are in the park be sure to check them out near the bandstand!
