Historic Wallingford is pleased to announce its second annual self-guided exploration of the neighborhood called Exploring Wallingford. The public is invited to pick up a free brochure at one of these sponsor locations between August 1 and September 15:
- Verity Credit Union – 4545 Stone Way N
- Cedarhouse Flowers – 1621 N 45th St.
- Yazdi – Wallingford Center, 1815 N 45th St.
- Slave to the Needle Tattoo – 403 NE 45th St.
The rich, colorful brochure highlights 18 natural, historical, and artistic points of interest on Wallingford Hill between 40th and 45th streets. A QR code in the brochure links to an interactive map with more information about each feature and additional points of interest. (See this link for the 2022 activity.)
The brochure, designed by Linda Sewell and compiled by a team of volunteers, allows participants to explore the neighborhood highlights in any order and at any pace. The hope is participants will take their time and experience Wallingford in new ways.
“Wallingford has all kinds of gems, and we are showcasing a small sampling of its past and present through this activity,” said Sarah Martin, who managed the volunteer effort to produce the brochure and interactive map on behalf of Historic Wallingford. “One of my favorite things about this activity is that it begins by visiting one of the sponsor businesses to pick up a brochure. These businesses are part of what makes Wallingford special.”
“There are so many stories of Wallingford’s past hidden around the neighborhood. The brochure is a way to share some of these stories and show people how our neighborhood grew over the last 100 years.”
Exploring Wallingford volunteer, Tyson Baty
Historic Wallingford plans to produce additional Exploring Wallingford guides for other parts of the neighborhood. The organization is grateful for the continued support of 4Culture, which provides arts and culture funding throughout King County.
