This spring the Wallingford Community Council (WCC) conducted a survey of Wallingford residents to determine what issues and concerns are priorities and that should be addressed by the WCC. The survey also gauged how well the WCC is performing and what areas it should focus on. Here is a summary of key findings from the survey.
The total number of respondents was 268. 96% of respondents were Wallingford residents
Only 18% of respondents identify as members of the WCC and the most common reason for not being a member was know knowing about the WCC, what it does and the benefits of membership
The top 5 issues respondents want the WCC to focus on are:
- Public Safety
- Homelessness
- Zoning
- Housing for All
- Park Upkeep
In the write in “Other” category, there were 30 replies that were all unique ranging from vandalism, safety for kids to walk to school, social events, grow the Chamber of Commerce, traffic, parking, and support for senior.
Which role should the WCC spend most of its time on?
- Advocate with city, county and state agencies got the clear majority with 60% of responding to it.
- Investigate and monitor notices and neighborhood activities for issues that maybe of concern was second with 48% of the votes.
- Negotiate and Coordinate were 3rd/4th with 39% and 38% of the votes respectively
There were 17 replies in the “Other” category ranging from promote last and order to no more up zoning, diversity membership, and experiment with ideas that only work at the local level.
