The Wallingford Community Senior Center will be hosting another free COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Thursday, June 22. Children over age 3 can receive an initial shot series. Anyone over age 12 who has not yet received a bivalent booster is eligible and urged to get boosted. Anyone over 65 who received a booster more than 4 months ago is eligible for a second booster now. Anyone at any age with a compromised immune system who received a booster more than 2 months ago is also eligible. The booster has been shown to significantly increase the circulating antibodies, increasing your protection from the virus. Best of all, it’s still free. Very soon, that will not be the case as the recent debt limit bill is seeking the return of unused state COVID-19 money.
The clinic will be held at the Senior Center, on the ground floor of the Good Shepherd Center, 4649 Sunnyside Ave N from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Although walkins will be accommodated at the clinic, you are urged to make an appointment though the registration website . The whole process should take you less than 30 minutes.
Yes, we are now at a very low point for COVID-19 infections. At the end of May the weekly reported case rate for King County had fallen to 15.1 cases/100,000 population, or 341 cases of new infections. Hospitalizations fell to 173 persons admitted, which suggests the actual number of cases may be much greater than reported as hospitalizations should be a smaller proportion of infections. We’ve learned a lot about how to treat COVID-19 infections. No deaths were reported but instances of Long COVID causing more misery continue to be troubling.
But as Yogi Berra observed, “It ain’t over till it’s over.” Persons over 65 and persons with compromised immune systems are strongly urged to get a second booster and everyone who has not yet received a bivalent booster is urged to get one now. And remember, it is still being given at no cost to you.
When you log in to the website, you will need to answer on the dropdown boxes that you are looking for a COVID-19 vaccine and indicate which you want, Pfizer or Moderna. On the next page enter your or your child’s birth date so the program knows if you need the adult or the juvenile vaccine. For Pfizer, you need to indicate which level of vaccine you need. For Moderna, only the bivalent booster is offered, Then you will come to a screen where you indicate you want to make an appointment at the Senior Center. Currently, appointments are available at different times of the day. Registering is straight-forward and relatively easy.
