In case you were wondering what’s up with the old Mejari Fusion place next door to Murphy’s…our friends at City Cellars shared this pic of the liquor license application for a Greek restaurant to be run by a familiar name in Seattle: Kostas Opa, Inc. Old timers (as we fossilized relics from the Age of Dinosaurs like to call you youngsters) in the area might recall a restaurant that operated for 20 years in the heart of Fremont called Costas Opa, or the current longtime U District establishment, Costas on the Ave. The recently filed business license information lists the iconic owner of those establishments, Costantinos “Costas” Antonopoulos, as the contact for the Wallingford business. The location of the old Mejari and new restaurant on N. 45th is also listed as the business location. We don’t have info on the projected opening date, but renovations seem to be moving along smartly. We look forward to having another tasty cuisine option in Wallyhood.
I remember going to Costa’s in Fremont years ago. Will be a nice addition to 45th!
I have a vague notion that he may own the building. That tends to be a longevity factor for Wallingford businesses.
The last time I was in the Fremont restaurant, people still smoked in restaurants, though in a separate “section.”
Yes, the county property database agrees he owns the building (and its two neighbors). I remember reading the former Mejari building, plus Murphy’s next door, were planned for redevelopment. I guess those plans are on hold for now?
The original Costa’s Opa location turned into a Chase branch, which is now closed. Maybe they can go back to that location also.
A new Greek sit-down restaurant in Wallingford sounds like a great addition. Will have to check it out once they’re open. Still waiting for an as-good-as-Greektown-in-Chicago Greek restaurant to open.
This is great news. Thanks.
Costa’s on 45th should be open now! Can’t wait to dine there.
