Wondering what’s going on in the space on 45th, that was once Starbucks?
It’s now Young Tea, created by proprietor Caroline Lee.
I recently had a fun and informative conversation with Caroline.
Tea is a big part of the culture in her native Taiwan; she named the store ‘young’ because tea, in its many types and variations, is good for you – it keeps you young.
Caroline moved to New York about 30 years ago and came to Seattle 10 years later.
Her first store in Chinatown, is now closed – the landlord had ‘other plans’. And when she saw the vacant Starbucks space in Wallingford, she jumped on it; the neighborhood is a good fit for a serious tea store. Caroline is looking for another space in Chinatown as well one as Bellevue.
Young Tea offers many types of tea, both loose and bagged, as well as bubble tea. Her bubble tea is made with quality, organic ingredients, unlike many commercial brands.
Something I had not seen before are ‘Tea Eggs’ – eggs boiled in tea. Interesting appearance and flavor.
She is planning to have tastings and classes soon.
More seating options are also planned.
