You may have seen our posts on the Freeway Estates Community Orchard, a garden/orchard neighborhood project on 6th Ave NE between 60th and 64th. Over the last decade or so, community members in the Freeway stretch of north Wallingford along 5th and 6th avenues next to I-5 turned a vacant lot into a lovely piece of public land. They grow food for volunteers, the U District food bank, and community events like…the fall cider fest coming up Saturday, October 15th.
From 2:00-4:00pm come on down to the Estates for the annual celebration. Try some cider, catch some live music and even get your tools sharpened. Oh, and we hear there is always so much pie! What more do you need than some pie to make the weekend great?
You’ll also get to see and learn more about what this dedicated community has achieved. Check out some of the history here. There are lots of ideas for transforming spaces – get inspired!
