The Wallingford Community Senior Center will hold a free Covid vaccine clinic on March 24 from 10 am to 3 pm. This clinic is for any of the first three doses if you have not yet received all of them — either children or adults. It is also for the 4th dose booster for all folks older than 65 years and folks of all ages who have a compromised immune system, either natural or medically induced, such as by chemotherapy, treatment for chronic kidney disease, or genetic deficiencies.
The Covid vaccine works by training the B cells of your immune system to recognize an element on the surface of the Covid virus. The B cells in turn train the T cells, which then search out and kill the virus. Unfortunately the B cells are relatively short lived so after a while the effectiveness of the vaccine declines. All sorts of studies are still ongoing but the latest research suggests, and the CDC agrees, older folks and folks with a compromised immune system should get a booster about five months after the third dose in order to get and keep their defenses up against the virus. Older folks and those with a compromised immune system tend to be less responsive to the vaccine and need the fourth dose to get their immune system to respond sufficiently. Current data suggest that after the third dose for most folks or the fourth dose for older and immune compromised folks the trained T cells will be at a high level in your blood and will be longer lasting.
All the different types of vaccines will be available at the clinic, both the adult doses and the pediatric (children) doses. If you want to sign up for an appointment at the clinic go to bit.ly/peds-vaxwallingford to sign up someone less than 18 years old or to bit.ly/vaxwallingford for everyone older. Alternately, the QR codes in the graphic should work. Walkins will be accepted if there is an opening at the time you arrive. Call 206-461-7825 if you have any questions.
Masks, like the n95mask, are mandatory at the Senior Center. It is located in the basement (Room 140) of the Good Shepherd Center, at 4649 Sunnyside Ave N (corner of Sunnyside N and N 50th). The hosts for this clinic are the North Seattle Hub (three north end senior centers) in collaboration with AgePRIDE.

Pre-teens, Teens and Adults Who Are Moderately or Severely Immunocompromised
People ages 12 years and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised should receive a total of 4 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. The 4 doses are made up of a primary series of 3 doses of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, plus 1 booster of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (4th dose).
and older who are….immunocompromised……moderately or severely– tha tis not everyone. The above article cites for all folks over 65 and older and for all ages with immunocompromised conditions. There is a difference between the article’s description and the cite posted. Many people use generalizations. Many people misquote by mistake or on purpose. The CDC info does not say everyone over 65. But it does indicate if immunocompromised. We each need to read for our own situation.
