More than a few years ago, the auto repair place on 45th in Wallingford re-opened under the banner of Green Car Auto Repair. An experienced auto repair man opened up with a troika of three younger guys doing the heavy lifting.
Over time the young Turks took over the operation. It was a communal effort, but they never had one person as the ‘public face” of the group. Things fell apart and the operation was turned over to one of the troika. He gave it a try under Northwest Best Auto Repair. Eventually he passed it off to another member of the old team.
He tried for a while but the end has come. The property is now “Available.” Let’s wait and see what the next effort will bring.
Thanks for the history and update Alan. They were the only full service shop in the neighborhood, so now if you need real work done you won’t be able to drop off your car and walk home. Site will be redeveloped I expect. It was always crazy cramped for the type of work they did so I don’t know who would want the headache, and the structure is no great shakes.
I hope your comment is tongue-in-cheek and a sad commentary on political correctness.
The office building itself is quite unusually shaped. Does anyone have any idea where it came from?
Probably the early days of service stations, when the buildings were often quite fanciful
I had work done there twice last year and was not impressed. They were really bad at communication; dates slipped multiple times. The phrase “underpromise, overdeliver” seems to have been lost on them. It’s one thing to estimate up front that you won’t be able to take a look at the car for a week and give the customer that information in advance, it’s quite another to say you’ll get to it in a day or two (so the customer has reason to believe they’ll get the car back soon) and then not get the work done until a week later.
As much as I liked the idea of having a repair shop in the neighborhood that I could walk home from after dropping off the car, there’s no way I would have gone there again. Perhaps if it reopens under new management I’ll give them another try.
