On Friday afternoon, 3 December, an altercation occurred outside of Wallingford institution, Murphy’s Pub. According to the Seattle Times, a 61-year-old man was stabbed by another man.
An eyewitness to the incident, now under the Wallyhood Witness Protection Program, provided this account:
“I walked from my home to CVS, crossed the street at Meridian and 45th and didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. There were lots of kids walking around at this time. Maybe school had recently gotten out? I went into CVS and was inside for 1-2 minutes, came out to walk to Bartell’s. At that time, two guys were on the ground brawling in the street between CVS and Murphy’s. Cars were backed up behind them. They were hitting and kicking each other and yelling. Both appeared under the influence of something. One guy had a shopping cart on the sidewalk by Murphy’s. He seemed agitated and angry because the other guy was trying to take his stuff out of the cart. He said at one point, ‘I will cut you.’
“I crossed Meridian to walk to Bartell’s. A woman was on the phone in front of Murphy’s talking to police on her phone. At this point, I didn’t perceive that the situation would escalate so much. I guess you get immune to erratic behavior by folks with shopping carts that walk through our neighborhoods. Sad, but true. I went to Bartell’s and came out within 1-2 minutes and crossed the street at Burke to head home. I could hear the police, fire, and ambulance response at that time from 44th.”
Murphy’s locked down and employees helped to identify the alleged assailant. A 65-year-old man was apprehended by SPD near Meridian Park and booked into King County Jail for first-degree assault. The victim was treated by SFD and taken to Harborview in critical condition.

Grateful for the fast-acting staff at Murphy’s for keeping neighbors safe.
Agree. Also props to SFD for quick aid to the victim and SPD for nabbing the perp near Meridian Park and kids playing at that location.
Thank you Wallyhood for daring to suggest in your report that the perpetrators were h*******. We won’t get that in the Times or SPD blotter.
Thank you for the bits of humor in your writing! Makes the blog feel authentic and neighborly.
I have not heard but will see if I can find out.
Harborview won’t release information on condition due to request by the patient for privacy.
