Sharing the below announcement about two outstanding members of our community, one of whom is a frequent contributor on this blog:
On November 6th, the Wallingford Community Senior Center (WCSC) held Share to Care. Share to Care was the center’s first virtual fundraising event! At the WCSC, we wanted to honor those who have had tremendous efforts in helping the center and created the Hall of Gratitude. Each inductee receives a special engraved heart with their name on it and their pictures will be on display in the Senior Center.
After many choices of wonderful candidates, our first inductees are Carl Slater and Mike Ruby! Both Carl & Mike have spent many years growing the Wallingford Community. Carl helped start the Senior Center, served as Wallingford Community Council President and became the first manager of the Good Shepherd Center after supporting efforts to save the building from demolition. Mike has advocated for the Center when it fell on hard financial times, was a part of the WCSC board and serves on the board of Historic Wallingford. After many years, both Carl and Mike currently still attend classes and volunteer at the center.
Congratulations Carl and Mike! We are grateful for your many contributions to Wallingford.
Congratulations and thank you to both Mike and Carl! I had the pleasure of working with them on the WCC for a time, and was always impressed by the depth of their knowledge of the neighborhood and their dedication to making it a better place to live/work/play. Great choices WCSC!
Carl and Mike were active when I moved to Wallingford 35 years ago. Their boundless enthusiasm for the neighborhood persists as others come and go with our various projects. Thank you for all your hard work on behalf of our community.
Thank you! I was looking for something like that, but struggled to find. And as you can imagine, both these humble guys did not want the spotlight on them and are busy with other projects anyway!
Wow. What a legacy of service!
