Our neighborhood has some amazing artists and craftspeople. Shop local this season! (And no, Amazon doesn’t count as “local”, even in this city.)
This past Saturday, Mosaic Coffeehouse hosted a dozen or so local artists and craftspeople, selling their work just in time for the holidays. In case you missed it but would like to give something unique, original and truly locally made, I gathered their contact info for you here. Some have online shops, but you might reach out about local perusing and pick-up if you see something you like.
Update: there is another local art and craft market at the Smith & Burns building, (4455 Interlake Ave N, corner of 45th Street), today, Sunday, December 8, 1 – 5 pm.
Kari Westphal creates encaustics, a painting style built on beeswax, damar resin and pigment.

Ashley Seefeld crafts simple yet striking minimalist lasercut jewelry, available through her GingerBeeDesigns Etsy shop.
Lara Simmons is a writer, teacher and a seeker. Her latest book is called “28 Days of Stillness”. I happen to know that you can score a free copy of her book, “28 Days of Kindness” at the Little Free Library on 43rd, east of Corliss.

Barb Burrill doesn’t have a website or an Instagram and probably not a Twitter, but she does upcycle bags like you see on the right (click to see larger). She says “I have many of the juice pouch lunch bags and little totes – no two are alike. I can make bags to order if the customer supplies the materials.
