Rebecca Fogarty, a program coordinator for the Village, sent us the following notice:
PNA Village Breakfast & Q&A
Thursday, October 10th, 9:30-11:30 AM
The PNA Village is officially expanding to Wallingford and Fremont! This program makes it easier for people to stay in their own homes as they grow older by connecting members with volunteers for transportation, minor home repairs, social connections, gardening, and much more! To learn about the village, they will be hosting a breakfast and Q&A at the Wallingford Senior Center. Current Village members and volunteers will provide breakfast and will host a fun and interactive group Q&A at the end. Please RSVP to [email protected] or 206-789-1217.
The Village Program is run by the Phinney Neighborhood Association. I admit to never having heard of this program before the notice above came into the blog email. A quick look at their website shows:
The Village provides a network of support including volunteer services, trusted business referrals, and social engagement. This framework empowers people to remain in the homes and neighborhoods they love while staying active and engaged as they age.s contribute to the social capital that holds communities together. Our purpose is to create a strong and active intergenerational community that reimagines aging by offering elders opportunities combined with support to fully engage in this next phase of life.
It seems like a great set of services to strengthen an inclusive community where aging can be done within the community. The Wallingford Senior Center has been a big part of the community for years, and I hope this program only strengthens their role in the community.
