Just in time for summertime play dates, Wallingford playground is opening on July 4th. We’ve been following the renovation of the playground since November of 2018 when construction first started. Construction was delayed in winter due to bad weather.
According to the Parks and Recreation website, the latest construction delays were due to the wood fiber surfacing delivery and installation. That will now happen on Saturday, June 29th. Once that is completed, the final construction and installations will be completed, and the playground will be open for business on July 4th.
There will be some fun happening next week though. The wading pool is scheduled to open up on Wednesday, June 26th. The wading pool will be open Wednesdays through Fridays in the summer, 6/26-8/16, from noon to 7 p.m.
Let’s face it – the Wallingford playground has been sitting for days and months at a time with absolutely no work being done to move the project along. There were occasional stops and starts….. but mostly just stops. The delays were due to negligence on someone’s part. Inattentive contractor? Likely. Inattentive project manager at the Parks Department? Likely.
If we had know it was going to take this long, the parents of Wallingford could have/would have knocked this project out in a week or two.
Unacceptable.
Thanks for speaking an unspoken truth.. re the delay. That construction is stopped due to bad weather is a ludicrous statement. Ther eis always bad weather during any winter. This winter with the exception of the snowmeggadon there was much more good sunny weather than most winters.
It is in print that the playground will open July 4. Maybe opening it when it is ready rather than posting an opening date might have been advisable. I am not paid by the City, however. ( c re c)
Everything is slow these days due to tight labor market and so many work being done everywhere. My friend’s simple drive way work takes months, with total work day just a few. I am not sure why you think it’s unacceptable. It’s just what it is, unless you want to pay extraordinary amount of money.
