The Seattle Police Department announced today that they have made an arrest in the homicide case of Wallingford community leader Lita Byrnes:
SPD Homicide Detectives have arrested a 25-year-old man for the murder of his roommate, a 38-year-old woman, in Wallingford last month.
The arrest in this complex case came after an extensive investigation, working in conjunction with the Washington State Crime Lab and the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
The suspect was arrested early Thursday morning in Seattle and was booked into jail for Investigation of Murder.
FLAHERTY, IAN EUGENE
Hey Marie – can we not do that? There’s at least three people with that or a very similar name in Seattle. One of them has nothing to do with this and lives in Wallingford. At least wait till the police announce it. I’m not saying it’s incorrect, I’m just saying there;s very little context and people are heated.
We considered your request and have unfortunately declined it.
Oh hey Marie – you should remember that if you sign up for thread updates, it sends the recipient the original, unedited post, so I saw what you originally posted. I’m going to give that a pass, since many of us are very upset about Lita and the entire horrible scene.
Here’s an update from the SPD. He’s held on a 1.5 million bond and won’t be going anywhere except, hopefully prison.

Can’t a person reform?
Sure. Carry on. I’m hoping this will provide some closure to the people who were close to her.
I wasn’t close to her at all — I learned of her in the news coverage of her death — but thank you for your kindness. My first response to you was driven by exasperation with what seems like a community settling for mayhem as a daily reality instead of saying THIS IS WRONG. I realize that was not the best choice. Bottom line: I hope justice is mighty and absolute.
No worries. I go off half-cocked a lot more than you do, so I’d be a hypocrite to judge. And the silence around the case, while necessary, was frustrating, because we felt like justice wasn’t being served and labored under the misapprehension that a killer was still loose in the neighborhood. There’s a lot going on in this case, and it’s all compounded and amplified because of the very positive effects Lita had on this community.
You mean Ian Eugene? I am not feeling very compassionate about championing his reform right now!
No, you’ll need to seek your outrage elsewhere. I was asking if I could change my reply to Frankie without being in the dog house.
wow. she was stabbed 60+ times according to the Seattle PI. lock this guy up forever…
