Looking for a ride tonight? Uber and SDOT have arranged to give you a little break. From the city’s press release:
SEATTLE – The City of Seattle’s Department of Transportation (SDOT) is teaming up with Uber to prevent alcohol-impaired driving in our community on New Year’s Eve. This long-term partnership is an extension of Seattle’s Vision Zero plan to end traffic fatalities and serious injuries on city streets by 2030.
Uber is providing a $10 discount on uberPOOL trips for all new and existing users in Seattle on New Year’s Eve. Users can redeem the discount by entering the promo code SAFESTART2017 in the Uber app and requesting a ride between 2 p.m. on December 31, 2016 to 5 a.m. on January 1, 2017.
“New Year’s Eve is a time to celebrate the end of one year, and a fresh start in the coming year,” said SDOT Director Scott Kubly. “We want to see a safe start to the New Year by encouraging people to make safe choices on how they’ll get home if they plan to drink.”
According to the National Highway Safety Association (NHTSA), traffic collisions are known to increase over the New Year’s holiday period.
“We want people to celebrate New Year’s Eve safely and not put themselves or others at risk by getting behind the wheel,” said Brooke Steger, general manager of Uber in Seattle. “By catching a discounted ride with uberPOOL, people can enjoy the festivities to the fullest — and maybe even make some new friends along the way.”
