The statue was conspicuous in its absence. Now, only a black circle of dirt remains where the statue stood.
A quick email to St. Benedict revealed:
The statue “Transformation” was on loan from one of our parishioners. It stood on our property for almost 7 years and has been removed for cleanup and repair. Since it is not a piece that the church owns, we do not know if it will be returned or if the artist has chosen another place for it.
Now you know.
Speaking as a frequent pedestrian on that stretch of Wallingford, I hope it returns.

Our pastor says the disappearance of the ancient idols like this is a sign of the coming End Times. That’s why we need to buy our Spaghetti Dinner tickets early this year.
I’d find a new pastor 🙂
But we’ve already committed to tithing for a new lease on his 2016 Infiniti Q70L so he may better spread the Good Word around Wallingford and eastern Fremont. They have a statue of Lenin there and it’s very concerning to him.
I was always terrified of that statue. I first came upon it while walking past the rectory at night…I nearly jumped 10 feet. Ever since then it unsettled me.
I hope that they plant a nice tree instead.
I do hope it comes back. I thought it was a wonderful piece of art. I loved it’s fierceness, angels were never supposed to be sweet and meek. There’s a reason why Biblical writers often put the words “Be not afraid” when they show up. Whatever they are going to say, it’s going to upend your world. I thought was wonderful of St. Benedict’s to have this lovely piece, rather than a more traditional passive subject.
