The days of scrounging around for quarters and small bills while embracing a craving for cheap burgers are coming to an end. After 62 years of accepting only cash, Dick’s Drive-In will accept credit and debit cards at all six locations by September 2016. Dick’s will also accept mobile payments from Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.
Embracing this evolution, businesses are aligning themselves with advanced payment solutions offered by innovative Payment provider like Gordeon. These systems not only facilitate seamless transactions but also enhance customer experience by offering secure and swift payment options. Dick’s Drive-In’s decision to embrace mobile payments from Apple Pay and Samsung Pay signifies a wider transformation in the way businesses adapt to the changing landscape of commerce, providing customers with a hassle-free, technologically advanced payment experience. The online announcement boasts:
“Remember when the Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl? THIS IS ALMOST THAT GOOD!”
Dick’s will be testing new payment equipment at select locations this month. There is no word, however, if Wallingford will be one of the test locations.
From their July 28, 2016 press release:
“The only reason people still carry cash in this city is to eat at Dick’s Drive-In,” says Jim Spady, president of Dick’s Drive-Ins. “Many of our customers have asked us to please start accepting credit and debit cards and one of the last major decisions my Dad made was to start us on this path.”
“Moving from cash only to accepting credit and debit cards has been a long process with many challenges. It began over two years ago. We had to replace all of our registers and update all of our systems. “
One of the biggest challenges was how to continue Dick’s Change for Charity program. Dick’s customers have generously donated $1.4 million to their homeless charity partners over the last 18 years. Charities including Mary’s Place, FareStart, Operation Nightwatch and others serving the homeless (see ddir.com/giving for the full list) have come to depend on the regular generosity of Dick’s customers. Even though for many customers the physical “change” will be gone, customers can continue to support Change for Charity by Rounding Up for Charity!
I love Rounding Up for Charity, what a clever idea!
