Harley spotted this sign in front of the towering sequoia tree near 46th and Eastern (by the old Bittman house):
I’ll leave with with this quote, which is somehow appropriate:
My dad once gave me a few words of wisdom which I’ve always tried to live by. He said, “Son, never throw a punch at a redwood.” ~Magnum, P.I.
Good-bye old friend. Thanks for the post, Harley!
Great and very appropriate quote ?
There are humans who do good and bad things and trees are no different. If you do not own property, go hug a tree. If you do own property, worry about all the liabilities. I own props all over this city and I love trees, most of the time, but when the City does not trim it’s own trees, creating a place for people to do drug deals (Leschi, Wallingford ) or homeowners do not cut sick trees (Northbeach), it does property owners no good. Trees need to be respected, but so do humans.
Work seems to have stopped prematurely (assuming the goal was to remove the whole tree).
Love when Wallyhood posts this kind of neighborhood info!
Goodbye beautiful tree! I live on Sunnyside and can see the grand Sequoia out of my back window. I know our new neighbors put a lot of thought into this decision, and it shows in their letter.
Yes – the lovely folks who took on this project (the house) and spared the amazing lot of awesomeness from the unknown possibility in the hands of developers, continue to demonstrate thoughtfulness and care. They went to great lengths to save that tree, alas it must go. As much as I love, love love the tree, I am ok with this decision 🙂
To see the house now with a lot of the foliage trimmed back, it’s no longer the Spook House of my childhood. A new chapter begins 🙂
It bothers me how quick people are the throw each other under the bus
United we stand ….
… confused, we stand around?
