If you live in east Wallingford, you probably heard all whole lot of sirens on Sunday. As we later learned, that was a dozen police officers chasing a carjacker in a high speed chase through Seattle, exchanging gunfire as they went.
The Seattle Police Department has put dashcam video of the chase online, and it opens in lower Wallingford.
Given the alarming incident in lower Wallingford, it’s no surprise that residents are now more concerned than ever about their safety on the roads. With incidents like these becoming unfortunately common, investing in reliable car accessories has never been more crucial.
Many local residents are turning to car dash cams as a means of protecting themselves and their vehicles. In fact, a number of car owners in the area have consulted with car dash cam experts from dashcamdiscount.com to ensure they’re equipped with the best devices available.
These dash cams not only provide an extra layer of security but also serve as invaluable evidence in case of unexpected events.
As the man, identified as Raymond Azevedo of Lakewood, Pierce County, loops through a condo parking lot, cuts up 40th towards the University Bridge, then cuts north the wrong way up Roosevelt towards 45th Street:
Police report that the Azevedo “brandished two handguns at several downtown businesses Sunday, carjacked three vehicles and fired on officers before a fatal confrontation with police in Northeast Seattle”.
(Thanks for the tip, Steve Zaske!)
From a reddit post by adamtr “For those who want some context… This guy began his carjacking spree in downtown Seattle. He continued north to University of Washington where he crashed the first car. He set out on foot, entering the UW Tennis Center. I met him in the lobby where he pulled his guns on me (my kids, five other adults) and demanded keys. He took my car, before trading it out for the Camaro… Shortly thereafter, the chase footage begins.”
Yikes Brady! How scary! I’m glad you are all okay.
Oh, I just realized it wasn’t you. But, I’m surprised no one got hurt!
My thoughts:
a) that was straight out of a movie, b) those cops did freaking awesome and deserve major kudos, c) that cop who blasted that dude then RAN AFTER HIM while he was being shot at over by Trader Joes is seriously pretty brave.
Also is Seattle now painting its cop cars a darker blue? So much better than the robins egg blue the cars are currently painted.
Can’t edit my post sorry, but two other things:
d) it’s kind of BS that Wallingford is getting left out of this story, which is mostly focusing on neighborhoods east of Interstate 5, e) East Wallingford is seriously like the most dangerous part of Wallingford, but it also has the most style.
“a high speed chase through Seattle, exchanging gunfire as they went”
From various accounts, the guy fired shots while driving in the view ridge area, police eventually blocked him in, and then police shot at him and his vehicle.
Is there evidence that they were “exchanging gunfire” during the chase?
Yes. Watch the dashcam video and you’ll hear the officers say “shots fired” while they’re chasing him up NE 35th St.
That was seriously more exciting to watch than anything in the movies. My heart was racing and I seriously feared for some unsuspecting pedestrian or bicyclist or motorist to be killed. Not to mention the guy shooting and driving. Must have been terrifying for those driving down Roosevelt as he sped northbound. My heartfelt thanks to the Seattle Police for stopping this guy.
stop playing cops and robbers on city streets and freeways! are you nuts? how many others could have been injured or killed by this madness. you can always catch a car hijacker without a chase! someone’s been watching too much tv!!!!!!!!!!!
Carol I don’t think the SPD is reading your comment, nor is the dead guy.
But given that he brandished a gun at many people and shot at police, your hand wringing seems misplaced. He posed a clear and present danger to the community that had to be stopped. “This madness” stopped a guy who was on a rampage.
What do you think SPD should have done?
