The SeaMonster has finally opened into its expanded location, now filling both its original space and that previously occupied by its erstwhile neighbor, La Boulangerie. Sounds like things dragged a bit due to permitting and such, but they’re over the hump, and rocking the 45th Street core. Congrats!
Second, I noticed that the long awaited (or dreaded, depending on your outlook) CVS at the corner of 45th and Meridian is getting close to opening their doors. There are shelves with stuff on them, and banks of flickering flourescents lighting the space. It won’t be long now.
And finally, Seattle Meowtropolitan has hung out their sign, but still hasn’t opened. Coming soon!
Does anyone know if we will get our mail box back on the corner of 45th& Meridian?
I know it is usual to be cynical about every last detail in Seattle, but in my view the public neighborhood feedback process on the design worked. Every single design idea I sent them was implemented which means many other people sent the DPD similar ideas of reconstructing the building to put it back to the way it was before the mid-century bastardizations of the building. The building looks good, restored closer to what it once was.
Yeah, I think the real “problem” is that nobody wants a CVS there. There’s nothing they could do to fix that except maybe start selling artisanal shaving kits and locally produced, organic floss.
Boycott CVS. We don’t need a CVS. We already have a hippy drug store, a local drug store, and a national chain drug store with parking. There’s just no call for a CVS. Support Bartell.
I have submitted a draft plan to Mayor Ed Murray which shows that that CVS has the headroom inside to support a skatepark with a small concrete transition area, an 8′ half pipe, and some street features that mirror the parking lot at CitiBank. I believe we can work together with All Together Skatepark to handle management tasks and this can be paid for by the new transportation levy, as skateboards are considered by most to be the ideal form of transportation.
Also, even if a second indoor skatepark isn’t financially viable, perhaps when CVS goes under we can get Moon Temple back.
Boycott Pharmaca! They are pushing something called homeopathy which has been scientifically proven to be nothing more than a placebo. They are taking advantage of gullible people all over Wallingford and selling them this snake oil. It should be illegal to rip people off like this.
That’s a shame. I’ve talked to one of their pharmacists or whatever they are, and it seemed like there was some potential there, but … it seems to be the nature of the “alternative” thing, that every alternative must be fine. So they can’t pull the plug on homeopathy or anything else, no matter how absurd, and you have to ask whether they’re fools or frauds. Bastyr Center around the corner from us on Stone, same thing. It would be nice to have some credible alternatives, but I guess the place to look for them is not polished commercial settings like this, rather seek out a Chinese herbalist in a hole-in-the-wall shop somewhere.
To be fair to Pharmaca, I’ve been going there for years and never have they recommended homeopathy to me. Yeah, it’s there if you want such things, in a tiny section of the store, but that doesn’t mean they push it. I buy my high quality supplements there from reliable brands, such as the glucosamine and fish oils I get for my dog. He would be immobile without them. I couldn’t find those high quality products at any of the other pharmacies on 45th.
Don’t forget Harvest Beat!
Why don’t you let CVS worry about whether there is a need for another drug store in the neighborhood. And what have they done to be boycotted? I had a family member that got a job at CVS after working in the restaurant business for years. He wanted to be home with his children and have more normal hours. CVS has been great to him. They promote from within so he has worked his way up from assistant manager to regional positions without the benefit of a college degree. He has been with the company now for almost 20 years and says they treat him like family. The company also took the bold move of deciding to not sell cigarettes anymore. I sometimes shop at Bartells, get my prescriptions at Walgreens and will figure out whether or not CVS fits my needs. I wish Pharmaca was an awesome restaurant with outside seating, but it is not. Should I boycott them as well or just let i go? I can guarantee I would have no use for a skate park but wish you well in finding the perfect location, and I remain hopeful that one of the many open retail spots will find a potbellys as a tenant.
What have they done, to be boycotted? Of course this is just surmise, but in a neighborhood with already 3 large pharmacies, it seems pretty obvious that CVS is here to starve out its competitors. It won’t be profitable for anyone as long as this lasts, but CVS apparently thinks they have deeper pockets and they can afford to hold out longer than the others, particularly Bartell’s which is relatively tiny.
I like that they were able to work with the community over the building, and if they’re not selling cigarettes that’s cool. I therefore hold them in such high esteem that I’d go there before I’d go into Walgreen.
That is a very good tip especially to those fresh to the blogosphere.
Simple but very accurate info… Appreciate your sharing this one.
A must read article!
Could someone please let me know where exactly the Seattle Meowtropolitan will be located? Thanks!
Same building as Desert Sun Tanning
According to a komonews.com article, Meowtropolitan is open as of Dec 14 – but you can’t just walk in, at this point, have to go to their web site and make a reservation. The cats come from Regional Animal Services of King County.
