I’ll be honest: I pine for the days when I was a source of noise complaints on my street. I’d try to be a good neighbor, knocking on doors before parties and handing out my phone number in case things got too loud, issuing pre-emptive invites to those likely to be receptive (you can’t very well report a party you’ve been invited to, can you?), but when the 2 am DJ came on, and the floor was flexing underfoot and it was just too hot to keep the doors and windows closed, well…it was good to be young.
But now my salad days are tending lettuce in the garden, and sunrise more often signals the beginning of an adventure than the end.
But the same can’t be said for all, as this interactive map from Trulia shows. They took data from noise complaints across Seattle and other cities over the past few years and fed them into mapping software to come up with this visualization of who’s still bumpin’ it late night:
While Capitol Hill and the University District lead the pack, it’s interesting to see the spots in Wallingford that seem to get flares of red.
Rock on, Wallingford. Quietly.
I know I’m getting punished for my party giving days in the 70’s. What goes around comes around. Next door to us are 4 college boys renting the house. They have parties almost every weekend. Our bedroom is right next t o their living room. They play music with the bass turned on very loud. Theyre also screaming and yelling. I feel for my neighbors who lived next when we were young. I haven’t reported them because during the day they are really nice kids,, but I’m getting pretty tired of it. We are in our 70s and 80s and need our sleep. I don’t want to be the mean old lady on the block. We live right in the middle of a hot spot on the map, so maybe somebody else is reporting them.
I bet a good chunk of the Wallingford complaints were from Babalu on 45th and Wallingford.
I know neighbors down here in the south who have phoned in complaints about construction noise. Don’t know if those are separate for statistical purposes.
Maybe we just complain more. I mean, look at the forums.
My complaints have not been about any clubs! It’s the past 11pm get togethers…and I think zoning would take out some of the noise…it’s so easy to have a house party and guests hog all the parking while I have to lug my groceries for blocks so my neighbors can have save money on booze…ZoNe! Insult on top of injury…Yep I will call the cops on their selfish asses any time!
