Two things happening tonight in Wallingford, joyful for adults and children:
Murphy’s has a comedy showcase, Wallingford Laughs, the second Wednesday of the month (that’s tonight, in case you’re having trouble counting Wednesdays, which I have trouble with sometimes, there’s no shame in that.) They’ve been getting a good turnout the last few months, and this month features Derek Sheen, plus a handful of other performers.
Every since the Giggles comedy club shut down (and then briefly re-opened as the Jiggles strip club (and then occasionally re-re-opened as Giggles again)), there hasn’t really been a place to hear comedy north of the ship canal, but it’s a nice change. Anyone been?
The other thing is the Wallingford Farmers Market, every Wednesday 3:30 – 7 pm. I’m not sure exactly when this is going to wrap up (it’s usually the third week in September or so, which means we’ve got another four or five weeks), so get your mark shopping in while you can.
Yes, there’s fresh, local produce, wines, ciders, breads, pastries and chocolates, but for me, the big draw is the kids. There’s just heaps of them spilling out of the playground across the field, whirling and sliding, swinging and digging. Zev (my six year-old) and I look forward to it all week, because it’s guaranteed good kid playtimes.
Frankly, I puzzle why, with this neighborhood chock full o’ kids, this doesn’t happen seven days a week, but I guess it’s a critical mass sort of thing, and I should just be thankful that it happens at all.
Point is, it does happen. Tonight. At Meridian Park. From 3:30 pm – 7 pm (for the market, and later for the kids playtimes).
See you there!
You mean there isn’t a place with stand-up north of the ship canal.
There is comedy–Jet City Improv in the U-District, and Comedy Sportz in Fremont, for example.
