Feeling that clack-clack-clack when you should be feeling a whoosh-whoosh-whoosh? Got a rattle in your saddle?
We’ve got some fine bike shops in Wallingford: I’m partial to Recycled Cycles, I admire the mission of School of Bike, and I know that Gregg’s Green Lake is a hometown favorite, as well), but if you need a repair, the wait can be heartbreaking: these guys can get backed up by weeks.
Enter Bikeworks mobile bike repair, setting up on the Burke Gilman at Latona (by Dunn Lumber) and available for bike-up instant repairs:
The mission of the BikeMobile is to provide an opportunity for our Job Skills Training graduates to improve their skills in both bike repair and professionalism. In addition to real, on-the-job training, these youth employees are given the opportunity to be a part of a community-based initiative, providing a service to communities through South Seattle.
The BikeMobile travels to select locations throughout Seattle, principally in areas designated as “bike deserts” where all repair services are available on a sliding scale. While bike parts almost always come at a cost, we offer used parts to fit almost any budget. For youth ages 7-17, we offer an opportunity to receive instruction from Bike Works mechanics in order to learn to perform their own repairs.
In order to support our mission-based work, the BikeMobile visits high-traffic areas and is for hire to attend special events. At high-traffic locations, such as the Burke-Gilman, the BikeMobile simply provides a convenient resource for commuters and weekend riders in need of a quick repair. We’ve also attended events such as the New Belgium Festival and will be attending upcoming events for Seattle Summer Parkways.
Their schedule for the Burke location: Thursday August 20th and 27th, 5 – 7pm, Sunday August 23rd, 10am – 4pm, and then Saturdays September 26th – October 31st, 10am – 1pm.
Bike on over.
Ben from Bikeworks wrote to let me know that they will NOT be here this Thursday.
