When Kitaro caught fire back in 2011, we mourned. When the burnt out shell remained for three and a half years, an eyesore and a graffiti magnet, we mourned again.
Now, there’s reason to cheer. While the King County web site doesn’t have a demolition permit for that property listed (although it does have a vacant property complaint), Jeff Lindstrom spotted demolition trucks outside earlier this week, and the workers told him it’s coming down.
I stopped by on Thursday, and there was little evidence of the demolition in the works, but hopefully it will have transformed from a burnt out shell to a hole in the ground in the next week.
And hopefully, it doesn’t stay a hole in the ground as long as it was a burnt out shell. The lot isn’t big enough for one of those condo buildings that are springing up everywhere, but who knows.
Welcome back, Wally! Your trip sounds marvelous.
Wally, Thee are two different threads which I initiated, on this topic in the General forum.
As I recall, I did put Kitsaro in the topic of both threads. In those comments, I presented it as a health hazard, a general danger, etc. I did contact the city, which prompted them to take a look at the history and the present condition of the building.
To repeat recent history, my last comment last week I spoke to the guys clearing it out and throwing stuff on the truck. One worker told me it would be a vacant lot in two days (including the burned house behind the former restaurant. When I did ask the businesses on either side, they did not have any further information. as well as Molly Moon employees and one at the dental office. They did not have additional information.
Last week, the truck disappeared, the boards replaced the windows, and all demo activity has topped.
After you read the past comments on this topic,I hope you will find more information now, and write about this again.
Again! Welcome back. Eric has done a fine job. Nice to know that you two will share the time consuming role of maintaining Wallyhood.
@iowagril, I really appreciate you staying on top of this, and apologies for not crediting your work. I’m guessing that’s your vacant property complaint?
I can see you want me to do more here, and I’m willing, but not sure what. The owner’s name is public record, but I’m not sure how get a phone number / email. Anyone have suggestions? I stopped by hoping to find someone from the demolition crew to talk to you, but as you note, they’re gone.
I can follow up, but not sure how. 🙁
Hi Wally, you are so good at this. Thought you might know how to follow up more. I just wanted you to know about the other posts, since you were far, far away!
But then, maybe you checked Wallyhood every day?? (:
Your trip sounds marvelous.
