“Echoes of a Lifetime” portraits displayed at Wallingford Community Senior Center this summer
Local artist Savvy Dani has completed eight portraits of Wallingford and other local area elders as a part of her “Echoes of a Lifetime” project, which has been awarded a grant from the Office of Arts & Culture. Savvy has worked closely with Wallingford Community Senior Center participants over the last several months for the portrait project, which includes short interviews with the subjects about their lives.
Savvy’s powerful work will be on display at Wallingford Community Senior Center beginning next week through the end of September. WCSC (4649 Sunnyside Ave N #140, in the Good Shepherd Center) will be hosting an Artist Reception on the evening of Weds, July 22nd from 5-7 PM. Come celebrate the artist and her eight unique subjects at this reception! Light refreshments will be served. Free & open to all.
Savvy is a classically-trained draughtsman, painter and visual artist based in Seattle. She uses traditional drawing and painting materials to unearth beauty in the world around her. She has been painting and listening to the stories of older residents for a project titled “Echoes of a Lifetime,” as an off-shoot of her larger “Face on the Wall” series.
You may remember reading about her live portrait session at the Wallingford branch of the Seattle Public Library earlier this year. Her work was also featured in City Living magazine. WCSC is excited to host this local artist this summer! If you aren’t able to attend the reception, Savvy will also be giving a talk about her work and technique at WCSC on Friday, Aug. 28th at 1:30 PM.
