The Meaningful Movies @7 on Friday features money in politics, including representatives from wamend.org pushing I-735. A question will be granted to the highest bidder.
BF Day has a meet and greet on Saturday at 10:30 at the school: Meet Principal Jaskot, PTSA members, and have light refreshments. Contact [email protected] with any questions.
The Phinney District 6 debate is from 2 to 4 on Saturday at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, sponsored by the Phinney Ridge Community Council. Or you can just wait until next week when we’ll be running a District 6 Wonkathon on Wallyhood! Yes, no more flailing about for what to write, we let the politicians do it for us. Incumbent Councilmember Mike O’Brien and challengers Catherine Weatbrook and Jon Lisbin are competing for the seat.
The Wayward Music Series continues to stubbornly avoid bluegrass, but Saturday night @7:30 sounds like a more involved form of the usual sonic noodling. From the Web site: For its season finale, Seattle Modern Orchestra presents two works for soprano and ensemble by American composer/vocalist and Guggenheim fellow Kate Soper, including a world premiere of a new ensemble version of her 2012 piece, Now is forever: I. Orpheus and Eurydice. The finale concert will also include two Seattle premieres from celebrated Italian composer Fausto Romitelli and Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas. Romitelli’s Blood on the floor, Painting 1986 (2000)
The 4-H Poultry Show is being featured at Seattle Tilth on Sunday from 10 to 12 at the Seattle Tilth Children’s Garden at the Good Shepherd Center. The pitch:
Want to pet a chicken? See kids compete in their handling of chickens? Learn more about 4-H? The Cooped Up In Seattle 4-H club and Seattle Tilth are hosting our 5th annual Poultry Show. Kids from 4-H clubs throughout the region will participate in several competitions to show off their knowledge and handling of poultry.
Fit and Show (aka Showmanship) is the main contest. Kids compete to impress a judge with how well their bird was prepared (bathing, handling practice), as well as their poultry knowledge and handling skill. Kids line up at a table with their birds, and the judge walks up and down asking questions such as “tell me about your breed,” or “please show me your bird’s keel-bone.” There will also be poster and presentation contests.
There will also be a petting table with chickens and rabbits, and information and displays about 4-H and our club. Come out to cheer on some very knowledgeable young people and learn something about poultry. Admission for viewers is free. (Contact [email protected] for more information.)
I’m too old for 4-H, but I’d enter if I could as our babies are now grown up and living in the coop with the rest of the flock. Here’s the 3 pics- April, then May, then June (today):
Those are some handsome birds, Eric!
What is BF Day? You have to be so inside Wallingford to understand this site these days I don’t think anyone understands the posts at all.
BF Day is an elementary school.
Too bad the Meaningful Movie aired yesterday.
There’s a school in Wallingford called BF Day? I know John Stanford, St. Benedict, and that one in Tangletown. Where is BF Day?
Janey- The Web site was updated Friday morning, but the mail got delayed to Saturday. Technical gremlins.
B F Day is west of Wallingford over 9 a couple blocks. It is an older brick building. You can find info re their school and population on SSD website and there have been threads here with info about some programs there and impact on kids.
Chris, BF Day is in Fremont at 40th and Linden. It’s the attendance zone school for a good part of Wallingford.
Ok thanks!
Thank you for posting the info about the district 6 debate. Unfortunately I am out of town and unable to attend – hopefully someone who does attend will post a follow-up?
Thanks also for running the “wonkathon;” I hope my question makes the cut!
“how will you collaborate with representatives from other districts to avoid insularity on the city council?”
Looks like a good brooding set up for the chicks, few nice hens too. I am sure the kids had a great time!
We all did. An old fish tank for the babies is great. It keeps them warm and visible in the living room, while stopping mess from escaping.
The chicken 4h event was disappointing to be honest. Totally overhyped by Eric. Last time I listen to advice on things to do on here. Eric is right that taco time is a sh*thole though.
Thanks for the GREAT photos of the chicks!
I dig chicks! (In a manly metaphysical way.)
