Bits from the blotter:

Wanted to share that there was a theft attempt on our CRV in our driveway last night. We’re at Latona and 43rd. Destroyed the driver side door lock and the ignition. Want to give a thumbs up to Officer Oakland for his help and to Elements Locksmith that came to our home and replaced our ignition in about 60 minutes at a really reasonable price.

Last night there was a reported potential burglary at 4338 Latona (home that is a pending sale and set to close probably in the next week) so 5 cop cars showed up, although only 2 were there when I got there. Cops didn’t catch the guy and concluded that it was most likely a squatter.
On the subject of squatters, I’ve been watching the house on the empty house on the corner of 41st and Meridian (at right) for years now, as bushes devoured a car in its, driveway, curtains decayed in its windows, but the yard remained kept up nicely.
Apparently, I wasn’t the only one watching it: according to neighbors, squatters moved in sometime last year and held a slow-motion garage sale of the antique furniture that was inside. They were eventually evicted, but not before looting thousands of dollars in valuables. The owners (Paul and Alice Nelson, according to the King County records) have let it sit vacant for years. Their children, who do not live in the area, interceded to help get the squatters out, I was told.
The police did catch the burglar (at 4338 Latona) after surrounding the house and ordering him to come outside.
I hope the squatters aren’t using a parking space.
Speaking of Meth Head Squatters, which are now a plague in Wallingford in Seattle, I was driven out of my own home by meth squatters who broke in, took over and scared me into leaving my own place;
I worked with a woman at City of Seattle whose job it is to remove squatters. Granted I do not own a gun yet she arrives on scenes of abandoned homes and buildings and also buildings being created, armed to the nines with a huge assembly of armed men. Here are some suggestions:
If you can, turn OFF all utilities, all. Especially water. Meth Head squatters, their clients and their scum friends will consume anything. Turn it all off. If it is cold out, this really works, they will crawl on.
Pour bleach on every available surface so the place literally reaks in bleach vapor. Remember, you are trying to make Hotel HIlton (your former home) into a place the maggots can’t tolerate.
Put up signage warning everyone that Meth Head Squatters are illegally living there. If you know their names or have a photo, place that on the notices as well. So any and every area vendor knows what is crawling into their place of business. They do this up in Ketchikan AK where Heroin and Meth use is rampant (like here).
If you are really brave and out to get these maggots off your owned property, get animal traps and put them out in front of every door and window. If you post notices of Rat Infestation, it is legal. Then don’t check back for several weeks. That gives time for the trapped vermin to perish.
I watched my former apartment buildings owners and the Seattle Swat Team battle the Meth Heads and lose. However, some of the things they did made sense. Take ALL doors off, remove them. The first thing Meth Heads do when they gain access to any building either occupied or not, is change all the locks. Take all doors OFF.
I saw one empty home be occupied by Meth Head Squatters. There was a staircase going up to the front door. They removed the stairs so there was no way to get to the door. Very effective.
If there is a secured power source nearby, shine the largest brightest light on the doors and windows and yard. Exposed the Meth Heads comings and goings.
Sheer back or remove all shrubs, bushes and plants that obscure sight from the street. Meth Heads will not only steel anything you have, they will also attack your kids as they walk to and from school. These are felonious criminals who need to be in prison. Now.
Fight back. Carry mace and when a Meth Head approaches you for money, empty the canister into their faces. They will immediately call the police (that was my experience when they invaded my home). They have learned to manipulate the SPD (what a surprise) to their favors.
Fight back. They fight dirty. We are losing by fighting with normalcy. Train your huge dogs to attach Meth Heads.
We need more emoticons in comments. Sometimes I can’t tell whether people are joking or being earnest.
I think here’s a case where it’s better to leave the emoticons to your imagination.
What the heckeroonis!!!!!!!!!!!! The long statement reeeeeeeeks of good helpful tips as well as scary possibly not true incidents. How did the police in guns etc.. lose to the meth heads? How are the police in collusion with these people? Someone used to post on Wallyhood ( free posting rights) about drug dealers who rented a storage space and then refused to leave and more more.
Most of Wallingford population is NOT meth-using. get into a block watch. report crime. Clean up the area as most do. make friends with your neighbors. help the police. Focus on the good, work for the good.
I am concerned about the Wallingford where Anne lives.
And I don’t think there are any emoticons that could help.
Guys (and moms),
I’m pretty sure this is a parody. I’d bet it was written to make fun of a certain character who frequently posts in the Forums to rant about meth heads.
On that topic, I don’t understand why Wallyhood readers have been bothering to respond to her silly rants with personal attacks. What’s the point of making fun of her? If she says something inflammatory about an actual person identified by name (which has happened several times over the years), we should notify the moderator to remove the post and then move on.
But, why make fun of her with nasty comments??! No doubt it’s easy to do. But why?
good suggestion @christine
I’m pretty sure “Anne” has an alt account. Go browse through the crime forum for ten minutes. ..
frankie,
Re-read my post. I know exactly who you’re talking about (S.M.) — she’s the “character” I mentioned in my post.
The post by Anne was not by S.M. — I’d bet money on it. Even though it refers to “meth heads,” the writing style is very different. I’m pretty sure that someone wrote it as a joke to make fun of S.M.
What I was saying in my last comment is that I’ve noticed that some people have recently been poking fun of S.M. in the Forums whenever she posts. (Including you, if I can be totally direct.) It feels kind of nasty and pointless, even though she is clearly operating on a completely different wavelength than the rest of us. Or, let me say *especially* because she is living on a different wavelength then us.
I felt some of the parody to sound like SM. I also wondered if it were true. I am apparently clueless. SM has just posted another post in Forum. I worry about her posts as a few last year named people in a way which could have led to personal harm to her. i would like to see her restricted in posting and to get help.
Sorry Christine, I totally get where you’re coming from, but it’s a neighborhood blog and if we don’t call shenanigans people reading those posts are going to be understandably disturbed or frightened and for no good reason. Personally I think an IP ban would solve the problem, but the fact is she doesn’t care what people say and never ever replies to calls for clarification.
Honestly awful as I am, and I’m mean and caustic, I am also genuinely tired of her crapping up the forums with fabulist nonsense.
Someone nicer than me should reach out to her and try to help, but giving her an unquestioned platform is enabling her.
Hmm. Agree with Christine. The “parody”’s length and detail made it way too long to be remotely funny except to the original poster/s: likely a couple – or more – who kept contributing their hilarious ideas while swigging beers and laughing hysterically. He/she/they making fun of a person who I would venture to guess is genuinely suffering from mental health challenges.
That said, Frankie is right (imho) to express concern about leaving her (the “sufferer”) posts – usually in the forums – unchallenged, as they can be alarming and confusing. Such a delicate matter – to address the lines between mental health and harmless wackiness. I don’t think “Anne” did any of us any favors with the phony post.
My husband and I live at Densmore and 47th and our car was broken into last week as well. They broke our driver side lock and ripped out the CD player. In the process they broke the dashboard and stole some other items inside. This is the second break in in the three years we’ve lives here.
Hope you aren’t my neighbors Anne and Frankie…. I agree with both Christine and walkinroun that there may be mental health issues driving the ‘fabulist nonsense’ and in my opinion making fun of someone who obviously has a problem is worse than the actual posts. Even if there isn’t any mental problem, why do you think you have the right to crap up the blog with your comments? I find them more disturbing than those of the person you’re complaining about.
Our next door neighbor’s house is abandoned, and I periodically have to chase squatters off the property. We got sick of calling police, who cannot do anything as it is private property. Their advice? Put up no trespassing signs and bright lights from our property.
If you leave your place unattended, they WILL move in.
And I thought cd players were passe.
My 2013 cr-v was prowled last night (2/22) parked in front of my building front door. No damage, but all things non- baby related were taken from glove box and center console. (Corliss & 44th).
I’m new to your blog and am quite concerned that you published the names of the owners of the property at 4030 Meridian, but neglected to publish the names of the neighbors who seem to know all about it. The neighbors I spoke with (and yes, I really did) had no clue squatters were living there or that things were removed from the property. Perhaps checking your facts before spreading rumors needs to be a priority in the future.
