In case anyone recognizes this idiot: Amazon van dropped off the package yesterday (1/15) at 1:30pm on Sunnyside. Thief showed up at 2:00pm. I have the whole thing on video. I was at home in addition to my two dogs, but didn’t hear him on the front porch. Package was an $8.54 8 oz container of plant fertilizer! I would loooove to get this guy identified, or at least put people on the lookout for him and his large black bag that he stashes the packages in.
Craig adds that he has contacted the Seattle Police Department as well.
Thank you so much for capturing this photo! I walk around the neighborhood a few times a week so I’ll keep my eyes open for this tool.
Please share with us info about the type of video equipment you are using, Great photo. Obviously camera not noticeable.
I notice Amazon seems to be shipping more things to me using USPS just the regular post rather than UPS. That should help foil these guys who simply follow around package-only delivery trucks and steal the packages.
Ah… if he was still in the neighborhood yesterday, he might have scored big off of me. I’m just one street over on Eastern and an Amazon package never made it to my hands. He’ll have healthy plants and new PS4.
Thanks for the heads up. I work from home and keep an eye out all the time. I’m no techie but would love to know the type of camera/recording equipment you use. It’s very clear.
We use a Dropcam (https://www.dropcam.com) as we also had some vehicle break- ins right in our driveway. Set it up as more of a joke but it seems to have paid off. I wouldn’t have ever known what happened otherwise. I hate to be the paranoid guy filming his front porch but it turns out it is great for this type of thing—or watching your pets while you are out. Jacob sorry to hear you got hit as well. I filed a police report and they came to view the full video, but unlikely anything will come of it. I just wanted the rest of the neighborhood to be aware as he is pretty recognizable with the giant shoulder/duffel bag. As well as the bright blue rain coat. And he doesn’t seem to care about it being on a busy street in the middle of the day. Also weird as he came a half hour after the Amazon van, so not sure he was tailing it closely—who knows. Call the police if you spot him!
Please note the skateboard he is on; an additional piece of information key to IDing him.
Thanks for catching this guy on video. Its an inspiration to get some heightened security. The other big piece of the puzzle will fall into place when we have some follow through from the police.
Me too, I work from home and take walk breaks so the photo helps. I really appreciate the community spirit if this neighborhood and want to keep it safe.
@don – Good catch, though given the angle of the sun, that looks like his shadow on the wet pavers.
My office is on Bagley and we’ve been hit several times in recent months (including all our christmas presents from my wife’s family back east). USPS has been arriving well after closing time and just leaving the packages outside rather than wait to get a signature which is very frustrating. I’ll certainly be looking for this guy but my coworkers have noticed a different man who frequently walks 200 feet through our parking lot to our front door and then quickly walks away without coming in so there may be another package thief out there.
