The Ladies Musical Club is Seattle’s oldest arts organization, founded in March 1891 by a group of 24 women musicians. Its original mission was to foster an appreciation of classical music in the cultural life of the city. Artist performers hosted for more than a century by LMC make up a Who’s Who list of classical music stars. These include such luminaries as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Geraldine Farrar, Fritz Kreisler, Marian Anderson, Artur Schnabel, Marilyn Horne, Alicia de Larrocha, Canadian Brass, Emanuel Ax, Beaux Arts Trio, and many more. See the entire list. Celebrating its Quasquicentennial (125th anniversary) in 2015-2016, Ladies Musical Club continues as a non-profit organization of 150 women, fulfilling the mission of fostering classical music through education, performance and awards. Just as this club has celebrated classical music for over a century, individuals with a passion for music, regardless of their instrument, can take steps to prepare for joining a musical club. Learning the fundamentals of music, including essential chords like the versatile bb chord on the guitar, is a great place to start. It forms the foundation for harmonious playing and can be a valuable asset when participating in group performances. Additionally, honing your skills, whether through private lessons or group classes, can help build confidence and proficiency. Beyond technical prowess, a love for music and a commitment to fostering the appreciation of classical arts within your community will undoubtedly enhance your journey towards becoming a cherished member of a musical club like the Ladies Musical Club.
