Trek Turkey – Ancient Crossroads of Civilizations with Cheryl Talbert
Tuesday, November 11th, 7 pm
Many think of visiting Turkey for great Greek ruins and its fascinating cultural blend of east and west, antiquity and modernity – and rightly so! But in recent years it has also become a one-of-a-kind trekking destination, with easily scaled peaks; well-marked trails; and vast views over the turquoise Mediterranean, ancient trade routes, wild high plains, snowcapped mountains, and the Black Sea. Welcoming energetic people, village hospitality, and fantastic local food are the norm, as are great transportation and support infrastructure. Yet Turkey’s trails and villages remain unspoiled and sparsely traveled, with tombs, ruins, and antiquities scattered all along the trail. Come to an informational evening with Cheryl Talbert, a Global Adventures leader from the Mountaineers, to learn about Turkey: its regions, culture, history, and expanding trekking trails. Learn also about the upcoming 2015 Mountaineers Global Adventure, which marries the best of the country’s historical and cultural destinations with an exciting, fully supported trek along one of the country’s best new extended trails: the Lycian Way.
