I was having lunch at Pinky’s BBQ this afternoon as three SPD cruisers screamed west down 45th Street. Now I know why.
According to the this story in The Seattle Times, Seattle police was called to the 4400 block of Woodlawn Avenue North around 3 p.m with a reporting of carjacking. “Witnesses told officers that the suspect struck the woman with her own car, according to the police department. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries,” the Times reports. The woman whose car was stolen “was hospitalized after she jumped on the hood in an attempt to stop the thief.”
The PhinneyWood blog f0llows up:
David wrote: “I just watched a high speed car chase headed northbound on Phinney Ave. They flew by my office at 62nd and Phinney… A suspect vehicle with 4 or 5 police cruisers in VERY fast pursuit. They had to be going 60+ MPH. It looked like a car chase from a movie, to be honest.”
The car was stopped and the suspect arrested. Phinneywood features several photos of the scene, including the one above, taken by one of their readers, James.
It’s something of a relief to know that Seattle Police Department will show up, and quickly, when lives are threatened.
(Thanks for the tip, Rachel!)
That’s crazy! There’s a ton of traffic that time of day from both Lincoln & Hamilton, with parents, teachers, and school buses. The carjacker was really ballsy.
Actually I heard the Times got it wrong and it was actually Woodland Park Ave N, which makes a lot more sense. People confuse those two roads all the time.
It was Woodland Park Ave N, although that does not make it any less concerning!
I live at that corner and when I came home from work at 4 p.m. yesterday, there was one police car and a damaged garbage can in the middle of the street. One person taking photos.
Thank you to the dedicated patrol officers of North Precinct. And, thank you to everyone who heard the sirens and got out of the officer’s way.
I live a block away from that corner and got home about 4 also and saw the police car on Woodland Park anda photographer. That is a fairly busy street with 2 large apartment buildings on wdld Pk on one side and some across street.. tho most people are gone during day time working.
