As DOUG. pointed out in response to my Eva Gone post, Eva in Tangletown has already been replaced by a Nepalese restaurant, the Himalayan Sherpa House (2227 North 56th St). Yelp response is full of largely positive, four to five star reviews. Elizabeth, for example, says:
Decided to split the house sampler and the Himalayan stew with two friends. House sampler includes beef curry, chicken curry, veggie curry, saag and coconut rice pudding. I really liked the simple, light preparation – no gut bombs here. Both the saag and rice pudding were notably lighter than one might expect, not overly buttered or excessively sugary. Flavors stand on their own, not overly spiced. The sampler also has a vegetarian option.
Himalayan stew was fragrant, savory with lamb, vegetables and spices. Love non cream-based soups, and this hit the spot – flavorful stock perfect for winter. Large enough to split among 3 comfortably.
Only Matt, who lives nearby, disagreed, declaring “Overpriced for what it is.”
Who wants to offer a review for Wallyhood?
We have eaten at the Sherpa House three times and found it to be fantastic! The flavors are amazing, and all the vegetables were very fresh — for me, this is the litmus test for whether I’ll like a restaurant or not. In addition to great food, it is a family-run business and everyone who works there is very warm, friendly, and helpful. It’s such a nice counter-balance to the culture of The Burgundian and Lenny’s.
I think the prices were very reasonable, and, to put it in perspective, Eva’s was far more overpriced. I don’t feel bad saying that now that they have closed.
And, maybe a little off-topic, but I happened to follow the link to the Yelp reviews and was appalled by how obnoxious people can be when reviewing a new business. Just a couple days ago, a reader and his wife posted a pair of reviews slamming the restaurant. Their major complaints (in duplicate) include the fact that they couldn’t get diet coke (ha!), there were green peppers in two dishes, and the dumplings in the Sherpa stew looked different than expected. To top it off, it sounds like they decided not to eat very much of the food and were aghast by the fact that they actually received a bill for what they ordered. (I’m betting they did not tip.) They promptly went home and got their revenge by posting nasty yelp reviews.
Glad to know I won’t run into this delightful couple when dining at this new place, at least.
My family and friends ate at the Sherpa house last night. They are new and are going through the initial phase of not knowing how busy they will be from night to night and how much they should order, etc.. Consequently they were out of a few items. Nonetheless, we all had great meals, shared with each other, had a couple bottles of wine and dessert. $130 for 4 people with two bottles of wine, appetizers and dessert. They are reasonably priced, we will be back. Also, Diet coke is evil and should not be served in the Sherpa house.
“Also, Diet coke is evil and should not be served in the Sherpa house.”
Typical uptight Seattleite silliness. Nauseating.
Geez, evon, have a sense of humor.
