The Wallingford Moms mailing list carried a story recently of a suspicious character wandering into yards around our neighborhood:
Just wanted to let everyone know that there was a younger man (twenties) who was just prowling around our property. He is wearing white tank top and white shorts and has multiple tattoos. He rode his bike past our house and then turned around and came up our driveway which has a car in it and was headed back to our garage yes in the middle of the day on a Saturday with us home.
When we approached him he said he was here to buy a bike listed on Craigslist for $60. He was on a perfectly good bike and he was not at our front door but wandering into our garage. We are not selling a bike and he said he was looking for 2315 Sunnyside which we are on the 40th block and that is not a proper address. We told him to quit prowling around and get off of our property and he took off. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. If I had to guess he is looking for some easy things to steal and sell.
Another Wallingford Mom confirmed and added:
Just to follow up with the last email. My husband caught the same prowler(s) at 3:00 on 43rd and Bagley. He was coming out the front door and heard them in the side yard of our neighbors giving the signal that “Jack” may be coming by. They turned around and my husband confronted them. They said they were looking for Jack from the Craigslist ad. Kevin told them of course there was no Jack and immediately called the police. They took off pretty quickly. Two white males late twenties, one wearing a significant amount of chains around his neck.
Since they are still in the neighborhood I would suggest calling the police if you see them on or around your property.
Which reminds me: has anyone had packages stolen off their porch since the big bust last month?
(Photo not actual prowlers)
Just thinking here. You might want to surreptitiously take a picture if possible before any confrontations. That way, if you were to ask here in the future if anyone has any information, you could reply “did they look like this?”
I recently came across a National Geographic show on Drugs in Seattle. It is called Wasted in Seattle and can be viewed on Youtube. It shows a significant amount of drug use in the UD, with the police ineffectual. Watch it, and then make our city council do something about the CRIME that results from the liberal attitude toward drugs and homelessness in Freeattle.
Yes, please take photos with your smart phones and send on to our neighborhood police contact.
I agree we don’t want this in our neighborhood. Hopefully with all the new development around here we can clean up the area by replacing some of this filth with more honest and hardworking people. Higher income levels might also increase the police attention which would be good…regardless of what some libs would say.
Hmmm. Filth, eh? Pot calling the kettle black?
If you’re going to try to take a picture of these guys – and I think that’s a great idea – I suggest you take a *video*. At least with my phone it’s hard to get a good still shot of someone who doesn’t want their picture taken (as I assume would be the case with these dudes) – the shutter is kinda slow – but with a video you are more likely to be able to go back and find a good frame that shows their ugly mugs properly. Just a thought.

Just so you know people are paying attention, Jordan: the photo disclaimer is hilarious.
I get a kick out of posters who twist a helpful neighborhood message into a rant about liberals and homelessness and drugs and “filth” while characterizing “development” as bringing in honest and hardworking and higher income people to whom the police will ostensively pay more attention. Like these young thieves live here and are supported by socialists in the hood. These seem like the same posters who cry about taxes and food programs and social services as sucking mindlessly at the government’s teat while loving the construction of big tunnels and SLUTS and the lower electric bills and big tax breaks enjoyed by big corporations. What a world. It’s hard not to think they are paid lackeys. Then again, research corroborates an increase in stinginess and rightwingedness as incomes climb. If indeed these new developments bring higher income levels here, heaven help us.
Let us see. We have high crime, drugs in quantity, homicides a plenty in the south of Seattle. People who work hard and make money live better. Lazy people on drugs, welfare and the government tit create problems. Where do you liberals think the thieves and dopers are coming from. They are not riding their bikes from south seattle. Let us take a drive down the Lake Union waterfront. Oh what do we have scumbags breaking the law, living in filth and robbing our homes and garages! Has everyone got their eyes closed.
Sounds like you’d be better off living in a gated community somewhere where you wouldn’t have to deal with those icky scumbags. Wallingford isn’t far enough from South Seattle? How about the east side, or eastern Washington? Maybe even get a gun to solve everything, eh?
Pat, I’m not even going to respond to Crispen, but I’m calling you out. My mother raised three children alone on a mixture of welfare and part time jobs. She was the hardest working person I ever met. She was dirt poor and instilled a work ethic in me, got me through college and raised me to be a productive member of society. Without welfare, none of this would be true.
So shut your mouth if you’re simply going to vomit tea party bootstrap bullshit.
Nobody is defending the burglary casing scumbags in this thread. You’re simply tilting at windmills and spouting offensive unchristian garbage. I use that modifier in case you’re one of those god fearing republicans who ignores the golden rule and the message of charity and tolerance that fills the New Testament.
And is “South Seattle” some kind of dog whistle?
As I see it, it is a problem of not enough social systems — mental health care, drug treatment centers, youth services and the like. We have let our people down when they needed something other than drugs to turn to. So, we the people, pay the consequences.
I’m sorry some were offended that I spoke ill of the criminals who are stealing our things. It was totally wrong of me to say that it is bad that they are breaking into our homes. These people should be cherished I suppose and I should want more of them trying to break into my place at the Prescott. If they are reading this, if they can, I am so sorry I called you filth. I am filth for paying taxes and not breaking into homes. My lord. Give me a break people!
Hey Crispin, or Crispen,
I’m assuming you have keyboard Tourette’s, because you can’t even spell your name correctly twice in a row. That might explain why you’re unaware that what you actually said, that offended people, was, “Higher income levels might also increase the police attention which would be good…regardless of what some libs would say.”
Why don’t you troll the comments on the SeattlePI instead? You’d be in great company.
So since no one commented that they’ve had packages stolen is it safe to say those burglars were the ones that got caught in the UD? Fingers crossed that was them!
I like the idea of taking photos and video of these scumbags. However, chances are the SPD won’t bother looking at them or filing a report. The other day they let a downtown groper get away who apparently was a registered sex offender. Perhaps it’s it’s time for the cops to tell us what they actually WILL respond to. It seems they’re either to “busy,” (read, lazy)or that they’re turning into a bunch of thugs themselves.
I, for one, am quickly losing faith in them.
Holy creamy crispies. These kind of comments are why we had our login process changed. I am appalled at some of the meanness.
Prowling stinks. Theft stinks. LOOK at the people who get off the buses and wander through the neighborhoods where no one is home all day. LOOK at some of the encampments down by the lake. Sorry folks, Ive chased people off the property of my ( not owner, renter) apt building. I ‘ll live here 2 more years as I work in the city nearby and then retire far away in a smaller town with few buildings over 2 stories!!!! And a mountain view
Wow. I mean really, wow. Having been in the neighborhood 44 years and watching it go from blue collar to white collar and move up the income scale I gotta say, things are about the same although the more crowded we become, the more absolute numbers contribute to the absolute amount of ‘crime.’ (We have fewer murders these days too, just FYI, and not much violent crime. I think that is what attracts more police presence. So, perhaps we are lucky that way.) It is late. Perhaps I should not have written this and I will regret it in the light of day. But still, wow.
Who is our police contact? Email?
Yeah, I agree with cocoloco and others that the vitriol level is shamefully high, perpetrated by the frothing lips on the “don’t tread on me” side of the political spectrum. I am very supportive of the comments from the likes of Frankie, and yet I hope you can step back and not let the Pats and the Crispens get you down. While I am also very angry at the thieving scumbags, and feel violated when our cars are prowled and stuff is stolen (houses burglarized!!!) and drug deals happen on our street corners, I do take photos of the perps and send them in to the cops. Making the cops aware is useful… after all, why and how do you think they finally caught the 4 thieves?
The North End precinct has a new community outreach contact, who replaced Terrie Johnston in May of this year. At the time Terrie wrote our block watch captain:
“Dear Block Captains/Contacts: I wanted to announce that there is a new North Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinator who was hired in March to serve the northeast neighborhoods. Her name is Elizabeth Scott and she is part of the Community Police Team and works for Sgt. Dianne Newsom.
Her desk phone at the North Precinct is 684-7711 and her email address is [email protected]. Elizabeth joined the Seattle Police Dept. in 2012 and was hired as an Administrative Specialist II and was subsequently promoted to an Administrative Specialist III. Elizabeth is very excited about her new position as she truly loves working with people and supporting Law Enforcement. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from Central Washington University.
It was a pleasure serving you during the past three + years. I transferred back to the downtown West Precinct and serve the East Precinct neighborhoods as well. Thanks for all you do in keeping the neighborhood more informed, organized & safe. tj ”
If you see certifiably suspicious activity, describe it in an email to Wallyhood AND email it to Elizabeth Scott. Better yet, take photos or video of it, and send that in. When I sent in photos of drug deal cars, they looked up addresses and found many on the eastside (Bellevue is where rich drug dealers live, among the filthy rich, Crispen). As a society, we don’t pay enough taxes to support cops in following up small time, non-violent crime. “Libtards” tend to support paying taxes… so its up to you “Tea Baggers” to step up to the plate.
In summary:
North Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinator = Elizabeth Scott
email: [email protected]
phone (@North Precinct) 684-7711
(works for Sgt. Dianne Newsom)
