Greetings, Wallingford! My name is Anna, and I work with United Way of King County on their One Million Meals Campaign. The goal of this campaign is to serve one million free summertime meals to kids and teens in King County. Of the approximately 99,000 kids in the county who qualify for free and reduced lunch during the school year, only one in seven accesses free meals during the Summer. Volunteers served 490,000 meals last Summer, and, this year, we want to serve 510,000. I am working in your neighborhood this summer to make sure more kids get free meals.
There is one summer meal site in Wallingford, and it is at the  Wallingford Boys and Girls Club (1310 N 45th St). The Club is serving free lunch every weekday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.. All meals are vegetarian and prepared in the club’s kitchen. The Club usually serves 20 to 30 meals per day, and I would like to see that number rise to nearer 40. The support of the Wallingford community is key to the success of the Summer Meals Program. So, tell your family and friends about it! Tell your coworkers and neighbors too! Most importantly, bring your kids over to the Club for a healthy, free lunch.
If you have questions, would like more information, or would like to locate additional meal sites: call 1-888-436-6392, text 96859, and visit parenthelp123.org. Also, learn more about the programs offered at the Wallingford Boys and Girls Club through their web site.
