The Wallingford Farmers Market returns for its second week today, Wednesday June 4th 3:30 – 7 pm at Meridian Park.
Last week’s opening was absolutely splendid. I, for one, was delighted to see Britt’s Pickles as one of the new vendors: their half-sour are so crunchy and fresh, I could eat a jar at a sitting (and they’re fermented in live cultures, not cooked in vinegar, so they’re good for your gut flora). The guys with Handlebar Coffee made an amazing cup of Aeropress coffee, as well (although I think I’m getting too old to drink coffee after 4 pm and get any sleep that night).
The highlight for me, though, was how the whole park was just filled with people: kids playing on the playground, folks picnicking on the lawn, a musician strumming and singing besides the market, dogs chasing frisbees. I had such a good time stopping and chatting with all the people I bumped in to that was hard to get around to all the stalls of the market.
Even if you don’t need produce, stop by for the community.
W-hood — glad to see that you’re singing a different tune about this new location, in contrast to a couple years ago, just before it opened. 😉
Don’t mean to be snarky (or maybe just a teensy-tiny bit snarky, since I suspect that you can take it). But I am genuinely happy that you and others now endorse this new market experience. I love it, myself. Long live the Good Shepherd market!
I recanted years ago (http://www.wallyhood.org/2012/05/wallingford-farmers-market-starts-wednesday/).
Yep, yep, happy to be wrong on this one.
