It’s a big weekend for Fremont and Wallingford’s Gas Works Park this weekend, and the weather promises to be perfect.
Here’s what you need to know:
- The Fremont Fair is going on all weekend. Comparing this year’s web site to last year‘s, you will find the design much improved, but the events and information largely unchanged.
- As it did last year, the Solstice Parade starts at 3 pm (not noon as in previous years). This is unfortunate, in some ways, because it means that many people will spend their entire day camping out along the parade route to ensure they get a great spot. Fortunately, there’s always lots of room at the end of the route, just before it heads into Gas Works (although the performers tend to be a bit haggard at this point).
- HonkFest West, the fabulous convergence of ruckus-making street bands from all over the North America, will pick up where the parade leaves off in Gas Works from 4 – 9 pm.
If you’re at the parade and see a little white jacketed dinosaur on stilts (and his Fez-wearing dinosaur dad tagging along), wave and say hi to us.

Could someone please give a rough estimate of when we might expect the parade to approach Gas Works? It sounds like this might be a good solution for us with a toddler! We’d like to take him, but he doesn’t handle large crowds very well. Thanks!
If the parade starts at 3 pm, I’d say a rough estimate for the front end of it hitting Gas Works would be 4 pm.
I’ve been throwing Soltice parties for over 5 years and each year it gets bigger and bigger. Great job of the city to shut down SR 99 and 520 at the same time right this weekend. Add the parade and a marathon downtown many of my guests tried to come but couldn’t make it because traffic was absolutely horrible.
I wonder if the people who make these decisions look at a calendar beforehand?
