The folks over at City Cellars Fine Wines (1710 North 45th St) will be celebrating their 25th Anniversary this Sunday, May 18th, with an open house from 3 – 6 pm. Appetizers and, yes, sparkling wines will be served.
Twenty-five years: that shop has been there since 1989! For some perspective, in 1989: Chinese protesters took over Tiananmen Square, Mikhail Gorbachev was named president of the Soviet Union, P.W. Botha resigned the presidency of South Africa, the Berlin Wall was opened to the West, and the United States invaded Panama deposing Manuel Noriega.
And City Cellars opened in Wallingford.
Michael Herndon has owned it since 1998, and writes:
City Cellars Fine Wines has been selecting and selling fine wines in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle for 25 years. Our distinctive selection reflects the diverse food and wine backgrounds and experiences that we bring to our buying.
Among our guiding principles is a desire to seek out the most genuine and interesting wines available, wines manifesting real character and sense of place. And because we fervently believe that wine should be easily accessible and not overly mysterious, we stock both humble and great wines and always emphasize that food and wine are essential to the quality of life.
Our 100 wines $10 or less section of wines from smaller producers is a great reason to visit the store rather than buying mass produced wine from the supermarket wine section.
Also, we do wine tastings every Friday from 5 pm to 7 pm. Our rotating selection of shop favorites features wines from around the world usually under $25.
