For some reason, I’ve always had this image in my head of a Thanksgiving that starts with a game of touch football in a grassy park, red and orange leaves blowing through sharp, crisp air, everyone earning a good appetite before retiring back to warm houses and food laden tables.
So, why not? The grassy field is a bit of a walk for me, but the John Stanford School, where there’s a huge, empty playground, is right across the street. So, here’s my idea:
Dear Everybody Nearby:
You are cordially invited to come play a game of neighborhood kickball at the John Stanford School lower playground, to commence at approximately 2 pm on Thanksgiving Day and continuing until it ends. You’re welcome to bring food and drink for yourselves or to share, or just wander down for a bit to chat. Latecomers welcome!
Children and adults welcome. Kids too young to play should have a fine playground on which to clamber, and there’s no such thing as an adult too old to play. Basketballs and bikes will not be turned away!
What do you think? Anybody up for some prefunc?
If folks who live near the other parks (Wallingford Playfield, Meridian Park, etc.) want to do the same, let me know and I’ll announce here.

That really sounds like fun! We’re supposed to have good weather for Thanksgiving, too.
Sounds really fun to me! I don’t know what time our family is gathering, but we will try to come play!
Great idea! Lets have some fun!
