Nicole from the Wallingford branch of the public library sent us this late birthday announcement:
Margaret Parker has been a volunteer at the Wallingford branch for over 10 years.
Marnie, as she is known, lives at the University House now, but over the years has raised 8 children, with 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren! Loves to volunteer, has enjoyed book clubs and still reads the Wall St Journal and New Yorker. Played tennis avidly since she was 6 and continuing through raising all those children — and still got her dinner on the table! Her “home” is on the shores of Lake Michigan where she vacations annually.
A caretaker wheels her in now on Wallingford volunteering days and usually stays as Margaret works to clean books (she likes the non-fiction ones the best) and the caretaker is a new addition since a stroke months back.
Marnie turned 101 last month and is out there doing good works! It is a pleasure to know her!”
Happy birthday, Marnie!
Happy belated birthday, Marnie!
(Her volunteering path also included participation on a Resident’s Committee at UHouse that helped form and fund aspects of nearby Wallingford Playfield -the walking path and at least one dedicated bench- and plants for the old Butterfly/Hummingbird Garden, much appreciated.)
If that is what 101 looks like, wow!
Cheers!
Nancy, Friend of Wallingford Playfield
Happy Birthday Marnie!
Marnie was a regular volunteer in the food bank, every day arriving with a positive and joyful spirit! She eventually started calling herself “the Mushroom Lady” because she wasn’t able to lift the heavier items, but could still package the mushrooms. We love you, Marnie!
