A national food magazine has proclaimed something that folks here in Wallingford have known for years: our neighborhood has some of the best restaurants in America.
Both Joule and The Whale Wins have been named “#9” on the list of “The Hot 10” by Bon Appetit. They’re combined because they share common space in the Fremont Collective on Stone Way, but according to Andrew Knowlton of Bon Appetit, “Each place is a standout on its own, but combined, they’re the ideal restaurant: a little bit country cool and a little bit city chic.”
Along the same lines, Miyabi on 45th got props in the August issue of Bon Appetit for Chef Mustuko Soma’s handmade buckwheat Soba.
And while we’re on the subject of world-class eateries, Tilth is celebrating 7 years in Wallingford with a Bourbon + BBQ pop-up on Saturday, August 31 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Maria Hines will be serving up pulled pork sliders and Wagyu beef ribs alongside some bourbon cocktails. The four course menu is $45 (excluding alcohol, tax, gratuity), which includes eleven different dishes. Check out their website for more information.
Many thanks to @claymcdaniel for the tip!
Anyone tried to bring well-behaved kids to Miyabi, Joule, or Whale Wins?
I brought mine to Whale Wins. We were welcome and had a great time.
I’ve brought mine to Joule and we had a great time and excellent meal. The atmosphere is lively and will accommodate most well-behaved kids.
I’ve brought my kids to all three, and had a fantastic time.
I went to Joule for the first time last weekend and was more than impressed. It was wonderful and will return as soon as possible.
Whale Wins and Joule are now in FREMONT. Hate to break it to Wally residents but the bustling corner of Stone and 34th is an extension of Fremont not Wallingford. There is even a stand alone Fremont Brochure stand on that corner by the Burke-Gilman and Solsticio.
No Andrew, that area is and has always been part of Wallingford. While there are no “official” neighborhood boundaries in Seattle, and the fashion has become using Stone Way instead of Aurora Ave as the edge south of 45th in the last couple years, they’re still on the Wallingford side of Stone, and still a stone’s throw from Fremont (notice the “Wallingford” banners down Stone Way). Tangletown, by the way, is also in Wallingford, not Greenlake simply because you can see the lake from there. http://clerk.seattle.gov/~public/nmaps/html/NN-1130S.htm
