Inna and Laura tweeted at us Tuesday night that there were a crowd of police cars around NE 42nd and Latona. A check with the police blotter points to this story:
A Wallingford woman was packing up her car around 8:40 pm last night, preparing to move, when she heard the rumble of her car’s engine.
A female car thief had climbed into the victim’s 2013 Subaru—parked near 2nd Avenue NE and NE 42nd Street—and started the car up, possibly after finding a key on the ground nearby.
The victim started banging on the hood of her car and yelled at the suspect, who started driving away.
The victim grabbed onto the car’s hood and tried hold on, but the suspect sped up and drove over the victim’s leg as she fell from the hood of the car.
Police arrived and searched the area for the suspect—described as a heavy set white or mixed race woman in her late teens to early 20s, with curly black hair, wearing a bright-colored sweatshirt—but weren’t able to find her.
The victim was talen to UW Medical Center for treatment.
Robbery detectives are now searching for the suspect, as well as the victim’s blue 2013 Subaru with Alaska license plates, which was filled with electronics, credit cards, salmon and moose meat.
