Heather McNamee, Supervising Librarian at the Wallingford Branch of the Seattle Public Library (SPL), wrote to tell us about some new, free, family-oriented programs at the library.
This Sunday (July 21), from 2-3:00pm, the Wallingford branch (1501 N. 45th St.) will host “Ponto el Ritmo” (“Put Your Rhythm On!”), which, Heather tells us, is “a fun, interactive, music workshop for the whole family where we will learn about Brazilian and Cuban music and instruments, and dance dance dance!” More from the SPL website event page:
Elsita Savani and Jeff “Bongo” Busch present the Afro-Latino rhythms and instruments of Cuba and Brazil. Bring clapping hands and dancing feet to this high-energy, call-and-response workshop. For ages 5 and up.
On Sunday, August 18, from 2-3:00pm, “Rolie Polie Guacamole” will be rockin’ the branch:
Join this hip “kindie” band from Brooklyn for an interactive show that mashes funk, rock and folk music into original tunes about natural living, eating healthy and staying active. For ages 1-6.
“This is the first time in over two years that the Wallingford library is offering programs to their fantastic Wallingford patrons,” Heather adds. “The Library Levy allowed librarians to be re-instated at several locations around the city that did not have on-sight librarian staff. This means that more programs and services will be coming to Wallingford. Yay!”
Yay, indeed!
