Dear Wallingford Neighbors–
Please consider signing this Wallingford-specific petition! This is an issue for all Seattle neighborhoods right now. One Ballard resident has pointed out that they have had big box development that has adversely impacted the community in many ways, certainly traffic & parking & overshadowed sidewalks.
We are trying to mitigate that in our own Wallingford neighborhood just one block north of GasWorks. We are looking for smart-density, not big-box density! We have a great City Planner who is working on it, but the developer is a big national one with offices in several regions of the U.S. & needs a little encouragement to follow the rules!!
If you live in or out of Wallingford right now, or have ever visited GasWorks & Fremont, this impacts all of us, particularly along Pacific & N. 34th to Fremont!
It will impact traffic, your parking & the general atmosphere & experience of the GasWorks area of Wallingford. We want them to play nice & do the right thing.
Our Seattle Neighborhoods @ Risk! Urge Developers: Do the Right Thing!
Thanks so much for your support! Time is of the essence. They are wanting to get permits to start building in the fall! So this is the design review period when it really counts to show support for the Wallingford planning guidelines!
Best regards & many thanks!
Nina Chambers
Since this is a heavily debated issue within the neighborhood, we’d like to reiterate that if anyone would like to offer opposing viewpoints, please feel free to contact us at [email protected]. We want to make all voices in the neighborhood heard.
And if you just have no idea what this is all about, you can start by reading our New Construction and the resulting comment thread.
This petition is a bit silly. On the two western corners of the 34th and Wallingford block sit large, dense buildings about the size and scale of what is being proposed at the old AVTech site. Neither of those buildings have negatively impacted the neighborhood and nor will the one under consideration. This is just panicky fear-mongering and hatred of change. I live next door to the site – I’m looking at it right now – and have no worries about it whatsoever.
I’m all for density. We need it and it’s a good thing. But it should be thoughtful density with true mixed use including first floor retail. What I see going up is another box of bedrooms with no retail. If you want to get people out of cars you have to REQUIRE first floor retail in these kinds of places as a give-back.
Why would you want to get people out of cars?
Yes gp! First floor retail with windows and doors facing the street/sidewalk. This is a design proven to create safer and more community oriented neighborhoods.
well doesn’t there have to be a tenant for this required 1st floor space? The Prescott (said in hushed/whisper tone) has a gaping void of open space.
growth for growth sakeis the right way to go. We should be petitioning for larger buildings on that corridor with concrete abbutting the sidewlk an dno trees. In fact Gasworkshas a price, I wonder how high? We can selli tin parcels and build office buildings.. maybe leave a 2 t bike trail among the weeds.
carry on concrete lovers, your mission is clear
There are notices up for a public hearing on replacement of the Tully’s building at 45th and Meridian as well.
